RTG Rammtechnik has unveiled the new generation RG 22S — a multi-purpose rig that builds on a proven platform while introducing a suite of innovations that raise the bar for performance, versatility, and operator convenience.
The foundation drilling industry is about to take a significant step forward with a rig engineered for both pile driving and high-production single-pass methods—one rig that can do it all.
A True Multi-Purpose Rig
One of the defining strengths of the RG 22S is its remarkable range of applications. The machine supports Kelly drilling, a vibratory hammer, single-pass methods, soil mixing, and more, making it one of the most versatile rigs in its class. The new generation expands on this flexibility supporting the multi-shaft soil mixing system as well as the next-generation BCM 5L mixing unit.
The RG 22S can be paired with another new RTG development, the MPZ 700-800 press system. Featuring doubled cylinder speed and stepless width adjustment from 700 to 800mm, it serves as a highly capable, future-ready addition for early adopters.
Engineering Highlights: What's New
The new RG 22S arrives with a list of engineering improvements — several of them patented or patent-pending — that address both performance and ease of use.
Kelly Drilling Ready. The additional winch and the newly designed masthead integrate Kelly drilling capability directly into the rig. The key feature is the masthead design, which combines the main rope and auxiliary turning winch into a single unit and easily aligns the main rope with the drill axis. This eliminates the need for additional attachments and keeps setup time to a minimum.

FreeLock Mast Technology. Perhaps the most significant innovation is the patented FreeLock system, which enables stepless locking of the slew-able mast across the full range of -90° to +90°. Where previous rigs required fixed locking positions, the RG 22S allows operators to position the mast with total precision at any angle, unlocking new possibilities on challenging or confined job sites. This feature is key to getting into the corner area of a project where there are adjacent buildings on either side.
Detachable Track-Beam Undercarriage. The new UW75R undercarriage features an optional Jack-Up system with detachable track-beams, making the rig significantly easier to transport and maneuver between job sites without increasing overall transport dimensions.
Removable Mast System. For transport or tight-access scenarios, the mast and kinematic system can now be fully dismantled via hydraulic bolting at the boom — a practical feature that reduces single transport weights without adding complexity to setup. The same hydraulic mast bolting feature is used for the foldable mast extension which eliminates working at height for assembly and reduces setup time.
Patented Counterweight Handling. The auxiliary winch — now available across all versions with turn-and-move capability — features a 6-ton lifting capacity and handles counterweight management with ease, reducing manual labor and improving safety on site.
Sheet Pile Assistant. Originally developed for RTG's vibro rigs, the patented Sheet Pile Assistant is now available on the fixed leader RG 22S as well, further broadening its scope for sheet pile driving applications.
Performance Figures That Impress
The new generation introduces new features while pushing performance even further. Powered by a CAT C18 delivering 576 kW, the rig supports pile lengths of up to 22 meters with the MR 150 AVM. Allowable torque increases to 240 kNm for the KDK, and the proven double-head VdW 110/240 enables efficient secant wall drilling. For single-pass methods, pulling force reaches up to 600 kN—specifications that make this rig a compelling addition to any fleet.
Crucially, all of this comes with no increase in transport dimensions. Height remains at 3.6m, width at 3m (with 700mm track shoes), and gross weight stays at 63 tons without optional equipment.
Availability and What's Next
The new generation RG 22S will be first shown at the BAUER Open House in April 2026 in Germany. “We have been waiting for this rig for a long time,” Ulrich said. “That is why we already decided to place an order for one coming in fall 2026 into our inventory.”
With innovation at every level, the new generation RG 22S is set to become a go-to choice for contractors who demand versatility without compromise.
