Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Field Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team. As a Field Heavy Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for traveling to various job sites to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy equipment, including drills, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and cranes. You will ensure that all equipment is in optimal working condition and meets safety and performance standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Reporting to the Service Manager, a Field Heavy Equipment Technician is an integral member of Ridgeline Equipment, providing expertise in equipment maintenance and repair procedures, equipment management, and building strong relationships.

As a Field Heavy Equipment Technician, you are expected to set an example and be engaged in our safety program, executing work safely and in adherence with Ridgeline policies and all applicable code regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection & Diagnosis:
    • Travel to job sites to perform routine inspections and diagnostic tests on heavy equipment.
    • Identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Maintenance & Repair:
    • Conduct regular maintenance and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment in the field.
    • Repair or replace faulty components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
    • Test equipment to ensure proper functioning after repairs.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
    • Document diagnostic findings, repair procedures, and parts used.
    • Provide reports on equipment status and any potential issues.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance and repairs.
    • Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, and federal regulations.
    • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Customer Service:
    • Communicate effectively with customers and team members to provide updates on repair status.
    • Provide recommendations for equipment maintenance and usage to customers.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman or Registered Apprentice in Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician Program
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment systems, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and maintenance management software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract
    • Class 1 or 3 Driver’s License or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Ability to take directions and offer positive feedback
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Personal hand tools required
  • Willingness to travel and work in various weather conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position with occasional overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Work is primarily performed at job sites, with exposure to various weather conditions, noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights when necessary.
