ECA Pittsburgh Branch Hosts First BAUER Tool Repair Clinic
Apr 16, 2025
The ECA Pittsburgh branch hosted a BAUER Tool Repair Clinic, offering a unique training opportunity for welders and service technicians. Led by ECA experts Shawn Cunningham, Mustapha El Waziki, Joel Kubacki and Clarence Gardiner, the clinic focused on proper tool repair techniques, welding safety, and product familiarity, all to give customers a leg up on keeping their tooling working at it’s best and safest.
The idea for this clinic originated from ECA Pittsburgh branch manager Dave Johnston, who recognized the importance of educating customers on proper tooth placement and tooling repair to ensure continued productivity. Clarence Gardiner pointed out that getting customers to bring their tooling into a shop for repairs is challenging. The next best option? Educating them on proper repair techniques while showcasing ECA’s commitment to support and training.
The clinic provided participants with both theoretical and hands-on training, covering key areas such as:
Welding Safety. Crucial steps to follow before starting any welding work.
Understanding the Welding Process. How to safely weld on mounted tooling.
Teeth Holders Repair Tool Usage. Hands-on training on cutting and replacing teeth pockets while maintaining proper angles.
BETEK Tung Studs Welding Machine. Practical experience with secure welding techniques.
Manufacturer Manuals. Reinforcing the importance of using official manuals for rig and attachment maintenance.
Casing Clamps for Safety. Promoting the use of these clamps to enhance workplace safety.
Led by Pittsburgh’s lead welder, Joel Kubacki, several hours each day were spent offering that hands-on experience that has become so valuable for our customers’ and their service technicians. Follow-up surveys found the clinic to be an incredibly useful day of learning.
The enthusiasm generated by this clinic has set the stage for future similar training clinics. Clarence Gardiner is already planning an on-site training for a client’s welding team, further proving the impact and demand for these types of training sessions.
Future tool repair clinics are being scheduled as part of ECA’s ever expanding training offerings. For more information on ECA’s training department and other training opportunities visit our Training page.
